Skate Liberty was made in Lagos. Not the polished version of the city, but the real one. Deep inside Surulere. Loud. Restless. Alive. The kind of place that shapes you whether you are ready or not. The film shines a gentle but powerful light on everyday women who impact their communities with love, explore freedom in spaces that were never designed with them in mind. It equally brings more awareness to a growing female skateboard community in Lagos, Nigeria.

These are women who are superheroes in their own lives, not because they are perfect, but because they show up anyway. They challenge expectations simply by existing fully and unapologetically.

We experience this story through Jumoke’s eyes. As she learns to find her balance on the board, she is also learning how to find her balance in real life. She skates through familiar Lagos streets with her friends, carving out moments of joy, laughter and truth.

Between falls and triumphs, we see sisterhood in its purest form. Shared jokes. Shared dreams. Shared courage. Skate Liberty is about bravery in the face of ridicule and the quiet determination it takes to keep going. It is about resilience, love and the freedom that comes from choosing yourself again and again.

At Wandé Esan, we believe women deserve space to move, to take up room and to exist boldly. This film is our love letter to women who do exactly that.
